Volume 1, Issue 4 March 22, 2013 February 2013

Troop A318 Meeting and Swim Check - April 7 at 2:30 P.M.

Troop A318 will hold a MANDATORY meeting at the Stephen F. Austin University Campus in the College of Business McGee Building at 2:30 on Sunday April 7th. At 4 PM we will have access to the outdoor swimming pool at the student recreation center to complete our swim checks. We will form Patrols, collect and review Health Forms (available on your Jambo Dashboard), review payment information and provide information on our trip. Please wear your scout shirt. We will be swimming, so if you want to wear swim trunks that will be OK. Wearing your swim trunks will speed up the transition to the swim check. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend. If you are not able to attend please reply to this email and let us know. We should be done around 4:30.

WHAT TO BRING TO TROOP MEETING:

1. Copy of your COMPLETED signed health form

2. Swim Suit

3. Wear your Scout Uniform (at least your shirt if you wear your swim suit shorts)

4. Money to PREORDER Lodge Flaps if you are a dues paid Arrowman ($4 each)

5. Your T-shirt size

6. Questions you have about Jambo

Jamboree Duffel

2013jamboree-baghttp://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2013/02/07/these-are-your-2013-jamboree-duffel-bags/

Your jamboree fee includes a standard issue Jamboree Duffel Bag made by Osprey. It is 32” by 18” by 16” and holds about 115 liters with three compartments, backpack straps and a Jamboree patch. Everything that you plan on getting off the bus with must fit in the duffel bag. Participants will not be allowed to have any other bags, besides a small backpack. Your cot and tent will be on site, so they do not have to fit in the bag. However, all your clothes, sleeping bag, gear and other items must fit in the duffel bag. (My Philmont backpack holds 70 liters is 40% smaller than this duffel bag.)

Discounted Payment Deadline is APRIL 1st

The cost for this event will be $2400, however if you stay current on payments and have your final payment made by April 1, 2013, your cost will be $2100. The final payment is due on June 1 if you have not stayed current. Contact the council office if you have questions. If you have not been making timely payments and have a balance on April 1st, you will be charged $2400 total.

Washington D.C. Focus

During our visit to Washington D.C. we will visit Arlington National Cemetery. During our visit to Arlington our youth leaders will have the opportunity to participate in the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. This will no doubt be one of the highlights of your visit to Washington. This is a unique opportunity and all visitors do not get this experience. We will also get to witness the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb.

Patches- Council Strips and Lodge Flaps

The form to order Jamboree Council strips will be available soon. Each scout will get 3 restricted Council Strips reserved for members of the contingent units. Each scout will also get 2 “trader” patches. You can preorder as many “trader” patches as you want for about $2 each. If you do not preorder a limited number will be available from council later, but at a much higher price.

You must be a dues paid member in good standing of the Tejas Lodge to be able to purchase Tejas Lodge Flaps. Lodge Flaps will be available from the Lodge.

You will also be provided 3 sets of unit numbers.

Important Dates

Two shakedowns (preparation weekends) are on the schedule for the weekend of May 4th and June 8th. We are still working on the agenda for these events and let you know as the plans firm up and we see what additional items need to be covered.

It is possible, that once patrols are formed the patrol members might decide to meet to build patrol flags or discuss patrol organization.

Access your dashboard on the National Web Page before April 1, to select your curriculum events. (https://summit.scouting.org)

Health Form

Access the National Jamboree Web Page at https://summit.scouting.org and log in, then access your Dashboard to find your Medical Form. YOU MUST USE THE LINK IN YOUR DASHBOARD TO ACCESS YOUR FORM, not a generic BSA form. Please bring a copy to the Troop meeting and email to [email protected]
