E.T.A.C. JAMBO TROOP A318
Volume 1, Issue 5 APRIL 14, 2013 February 2013
Troop A318 Meeting Review
Thank you for attending the Troop meeting last Sunday. We had great attendance and got the things done that needed to be accomplished. It was exciting to finally get to see what our unit looks like and feel the excitement about our adventure. Here are a few key points to remember:
1. If you did not turn in your Health Form, please complete it on the dashboard and send a copy to Matt Lindsey and to National.
2. If you are a dues paid Tejas Lodge member and want to preorder Jambo Lodge Flaps you can from Matt Lindsey or Bob Berry for $4.
3. If you want to order extra Council Strips, ETAC Jambo t-shirts or hats, do that with the council office soon.
4. If you need to correct any contact information, please email [email protected]
5. The patrols are formed. We will be telling you about our Patrol leaders and patrols in the coming weeks.
6. Shirts, hats, patches, duffles, etc.. will be delivered at a Troop meeting TBS (probably in June.)
7. The JUNE shakedown set for June 8 has been cancelled.
8. Please send in or provide anything you did not get turned in (like copies of insurance cards.)
Jamboree Council Strip
The form to order Jamboree Council strips is now available. It was emailed to everyone on Tuesday 4/9. Each scout will get 3 restricted Council Strips reserved for members of the contingent units (distinguished by a different border). Each scout will also get 2 “trader” patches. You can preorder as many “trader” and restricted patches as you want for $2 each. If you do not preorder a limited number will be available from council later, but at a much higher price. Check your email for the order form from a few days ago.
LODGE FLAPS: You must be dues paid member in good standing of the Tejas Lodge to be able to purchase Tejas Lodge Flaps. Lodge Flaps will be available from the Lodge for $4 each. If you did not preorder at the troop meeting you can mail me
Patrol Formation
During our troop meeting the four patrols came up with names. We now have the Viking Patrol led by Paul Cook, the Pine Tree Patrol led by Joseph Clark , the Wolves led by William Milawski , and the Enders Dragons Patrol led by Aaron Jackson. Be sure and keep working on a yell and a flag for your patrol. Patrol Flags are a big deal at Jambo, so you want a good one.
Washington D.C. Focus
During our visit to Washington D.C. we will visit the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport on the way to West Virginia. The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport is the companion facility to the Museum on the National Mall. The building opened in December, 2003, and provides enough space for the Smithsonian to display the thousands of aviation and space artifacts that cannot be exhibited at the Museum in Washington, DC. The two sites together showcase the largest collection of aviation and space artifacts in the world. Among the aviation artifacts on display are the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest jet in the world; the Boeing Dash 80, the prototype of the 707; the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay; and the deHavilland Chipmunk aerobatic airplane. The centerpiece of the space hangar is the Space Shuttle Discovery. Check it out at http://airandspace.si.edu/udvarhazy
Jamboree Shakedown
Our council wide Jamboree Shakedown will be May 3 and 4th and Camp Pirtle. Make plans to arrive by 7 PM on Friday night May 3rd. You will need to bring your own tent and sleeping bag. At 2 P. M. on Saturday May 4th we will have a parents meeting and at its conclusion you will be dismissed (around 3:30). Breakfast and Lunch will be provided.
Be sure and bring your Patrol Flag and be prepared to do your Patrol yell.
Chaplains needed
Each patrol needs a Chaplain and the troop needs a chaplain (can be one of the patrol chaplains.) So if you are interested in being a chaplain please let Mr. Lindsey or your patrol leader know.
Last Chance for curriculum event sign up
Our council wide Jamboree Shakedown Access your dashboard on the National Web Page before May 1, to select your curriculum events. (https://summit.scouting.org)
Health Form VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU DID NOT TURN IT IN
Please send in your health form ASAP if you did not turn it in at the Troop meeting. Access the National Jamboree Web Page at https://summit.scouting.org and log in, then access your Dashboard to find your Medical Form. YOU MUST USE THE LINK IN YOUR DASHBOARD TO ACCESS YOUR FORM, not a generic BSA form. At this point you need to send a copy to the National office (the directions are on the form) and to Matt Lindsey either by mail or email.
The Summit Blog
Here is the link to the latest Summit Blog posting: http://www.summitblog.org/summit-high-adventure-how-it-stacks-up/ Check it out. They have some pretty crazy statistics about the facilities being built at the summit.
