Trip Summary
We will leave Henderson UMC on July 10th about 6 PM. We will travel by motor coach overnight to Tennessee. We will spend two hours white water rafting on the Ocoee river. We will then head to Washington DC. In DC, we will have a guided city tour, visit the Smithsonian’s, visit the Capital with Congressman Gohmert, participate in a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, eat at the Hard Rock, have a night monument tour around the Mall and visit the Air and Space Museum Hangar at Dulles Airport. We will then head to West Virginia for the Jamboree. On the way home we will visit Graceland and the Elvis Museum in Memphis before arriving home about 4 PM on July 25th at the Henderson UMC.
Elvis Trivia is Back
Elvis Trivia
Elvis Trivia is back by popular demand.
This week’s question:
Elvis used the initials TCB on many things, including one of his planes.
What do the initials T.C.B. stand for when Elvis uses them?
Be the first to respond with the right answer.
How We Got to This Point
You might not realize it, but planning for our council contingent has been going on since the fall of 2011. The leaders for the trip were picked and recruiting started in January of 2012. A Volunteer council Jamboree committee, led by David Bush, selected the volunteer leadership. The volunteer leaders determined the budget and the activities that we will participate in. Two different groups have visited the Summit sight. The most significant, was a shakedown crew that visited last summer and included our Assistant Scoutmaster Travis Tate. He has actually visited the site and participated in activities. Your leaders have been recruiting and planning for over a year, to insure that we have a full contingent of 100 scouts and scouters on this trip.
Despite 18 months of planning, it is still important that we all remain flexible. This is the first time a Jamboree has been held at this site and many things can’t be anticipated. We are operating on the best information we have, but, like the consent forms, some things will continue to get updated. So, keep an eye on your emails and the Jambo page. We will keep you up to date.
Closing Court of Honor
Upon our return to the First United Methodist Church of Henderson on July 25th , we will have a short Court of Honor. We plan to arrive about 4, so the court of honor will be from around 4:30 to 5 and then you will be dismissed. We will have a short slide show and make some special presentations. If you are interested in helping set up or can help provide some simple refreshments, please let Mr. Lindsey know. ([email protected] )
Guests for Dinner
The meals at Jamboree will be issued by Troop, not patrols. Breakfast and Supper will be prepared by a patrol for the entire troop and 2 or 3 guests from the sub-camp. In addition, if you would like to do an exchange with a patrol from another troop, that is an option. Your patrol eats with the other troop and one of their patrols eats with our troop. You can also invite a staff person to eat with us. Meals can be a great opportunity to get to know folks from around our country.
